Cele: Slain Mariannhill suspects ‘linked to more crimes’
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Police Minister Bheki Cele says the suspects killed in Mariannhill have been linked to at least 26 criminal cases.
The nine men died in a shootout with police yesterday morning.
Cele held a street imbizo in the area west of Durban on Thursday.
Minister Cele said 23 of the cases that were being investigated were for murder, attempted murder, house robbery and rape.

"As you all know that there is that gruesome act where the young woman was raped before the eyes of the mother, who was instructed to watch."
Community members at the imbizo were critical of the KZN SAPS, complaining to the minister that officers are heavy-handed when dealing with suspects.
"For now, we support the police, and for now, the police have done what they were supposed to do to protect themselves and to protect KZN,” said Cele.
KZN police say a manhunt continues for two remaining suspects.
