Cele says victims of crime need more sympathy
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Police Minister Bheki Cele says government and the justice system need to be more sympathetic to victims than to perpetrators.
"We need a government that is more sympathetic to victims rather than perpetrators. We are more sympathetic, we care more, even human rights groups, they care more about perpetrators," Cele said.
He addressed the Umlazi community during a crime prevention Imbizo on Saturday.
Cele said the government acknowledges that criminals often get better care in prison, while little is done to help the families of their victims.
"And you don't know where those victims are but we know where perpetrators are, we need to change."
