Cele confirmed the arrest on Friday after a community meeting on crime-fighting in the Matsulu area of Mpumalanga.

The 67-year-old man, his wife and two friends were attacked on the Numbi road last Monday.

The tourist died when the suspects fired several shots through the window of their car.

The police had initially arrested three people of interest who were later released.

Cele says the police have arrested the right person.

“The person will appear in court, and we see that person seems to be a South African, but we are chasing four more. It looks like they are five people who were involved in this as they appear in court the information will be available.

“Things like talking with the communities and working with the communities will forever help us. We do get good feedback that leads to good outcomes when we deal with communities. Indeed, one person has been arrested and will appear in court next week for the second time as I hear that today he was supposed to be in court.

“That person has been charged. He is not a person of interest, he is not a suspect, he has been charged. They found one car that was used as a getaway car. I think there are other cars and there are other people," said Cele.

Mpumalanga police's Selvy Mohlala says the 35-year-old appeared in court on Friday.

"Napoleon Joseph Nyalungu has appeared before Kabokweni Magistrate's Court today and has been remanded in custody until 19 October 2022 for a legal representation."
