Cele: Legal system must become more victim-centric
Updated | By Sandile Bhengu
Police Minister Bheki Cele says the South African legal system needs to become more victim-centric.
He made the remarks at the memorial service of two slain officers in Boksburg on Wednesday.
The minister said criminals have more rights, and enjoy more protection, than the victims of crime.
Cele told mourners the situation needs to change.
“Criminals in South Africa have more rights than victims. You see these things every day.
“This system of ours is too sympathetic, and is too particular, about the criminals and not the victims. We need to work on it.”
