Cele: Govt mulling extension of some detectives' retirement age

Cele says the government is considering extending the retirement age for some
detectives to help deal with staff shortages in the police force.

Cele says investigators who have a track record of cracking cases may be reinstated.
Union POPCRU said last month that poor staffing levels often hampered or delayed investigations.

Cele spoke at a presidential imbizo in the Free State on Thursday.
"We have invited the detectives who have left the system to come back. Two thousand of them applied and we are working to reinstate them so that we can increase the capacity of detection and investigation."
