CEF steps up efforts to ensure adequate jet fuel at OR Tambo
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The
Central Energy Fund has set aside some 1.5 million litres of jet fuel to ensure
there are no “supply and demand” issues at OR Tambo International Airport in
Johannesburg.

The CEF, which reports to the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, was roped in by Airports Company South Africa to avert a crisis following supply shortage fears at the airport.
The transportation of jet fuel was severely disrupted when rail infrastructure in KZN was damaged in last month's floods.

ACSA's CEO Mpumi Mpofu said on Monday that while fuel stocks have dwindled, they are stable for now.
But some fuel suppliers have had to declare a force majeure.
The shortages at the country’s busiest airport forced some airlines to cancel or reroute flights.
"In the event that we face fuel challenges, the Central Energy Fund confirms that it will issue direct use to suppliers or what is known as a jet fuel swap to ensure security of supply to all airlines,” Mpofu said.
