Cash van guards foil heist in Melmoth

Police are searching for at least twelve suspected cash-in-transit robbers following an attempted heist on Monday morning.

Two security guards escorting a cash vehicle came under fire in the Ndundulu area of Melmoth.
A gunfight between the guards and the suspects ensued, leaving the two escort security guards wounded.
KZN Hawks spokesperson Sibu Ncane says some of the suspects were also hit.

The gang fled the scene.
"As they were going uphill at Ndundulu area, a bakkie with suspects appeared and started shooting,” says Ncane.
“A second vehicle appeared with suspects at the back and started shooting the fidelity vehicle. No money was taken, and the guards in the armoured vehicle did not sustain any injuries."
