Cash heists hurting economy, says Lebeya

Hawks boss Godfrey Lebeya says cash-in-transit heists are hurting the economy.

He briefed the media on Monday morning on the crime-fighting unit's achievements in the third quarter of the financial year.
"The DPC are, in collaboration with private organisations collaboration, continuing to strengthen the fight against these crimes. For the quarter, 55 arrests were effected and the five convictions secured."

On Saturday, Verulam police shot and killed two suspects wanted for cash-in-transit robberies.
The SAPS says they were part of a group of 15 who tried to kill tactical response members in Nkandla in 2019.
They were also suspected of carrying out house robberies and farm attacks.
