Car involved in Umbilo crash linked to Malvern house robbery

Police say a vehicle positively linked to a house robbery in Malvern, south of Durban, was what set in motion a cops and robbers chase in Umbilo on Tuesday.
Officers on patrol spotted the car travelling on Fielden Drive.
They were able to connect it to a robbery that occurred hours earlier.
SAPS spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says they ordered the gang to stop.
They sped off instead.

"The suspects drove into the oncoming traffic on Umbilo Road and collided head-on with a horse and trailer.
"The driver of the suspect’s vehicle succumbed to his injuries at the scene and the other five suspects were arrested and taken to hospital for treatment.
"The suspects were found in possession of three firearms and 19 rounds of ammunition. Two of the firearms were positively linked with house robbery cases in Malvern and Pinetown which they allegedly committed in December 2022."
