Cannot mortgage KZN’s future to criminals, warns premier
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube says communities are central to fight against crime.
"SAPS assures that we rid our communities of criminals. We will never be able to stop crime even if police were to stand at each house, if criminals are still inside and people are not point them out that these are criminals in the house, they must get out and be arrested, we'll never be able to fight crime," said Dube-Ncube.
Speaking at the start of a provincial cabinet lekgotla in Durban on Friday, she said fighting crime cannot be done without the cooperation of communities.
She says it is time to claim the streets back from criminals.
"The second major concern is crime and the creation of safer communities. We cannot mortgage our province to criminals, and we must take our streets, our villages, towns and cities back from the criminal fringe that is threatening to overwhelm our country and province.”
