Calm returns to Umlazi school after transfer dispute
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The situation is said to be back to normal at Umlazi's Comtech High School after some teachers who were being transferred refused to leave the premises.
KwaZulu-Natal Education Department spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says a decision was taken to move around 20 surplus educators to other schools.
But Mahlambi says the group demanded a rerun of the process that declared them a surplus.

"We did a rerun of the process three times in the presence of the teacher unions and they agreed that the process was free and fair, but they were being stubborn to move, so we were left with no option but to terminate their services."
Mahlambi says the teachers disrupted classes, occupied the principal's office and camped at the gate - prompting a protest by parents over the disturbance.
The department says it's obtained an interdict to prevent the teachers from entering the school premises.
