Calm restored in Tshwane

Even before sunrise, roads were blocked in Atteridgeville with several shops looted.
A large group headed towards the newly reopened Desmond Tutu Refugee Centre Reception Centre in Marabastad, but police used stud grenades to drive them away.
A stand-off ensued between South Africans and members of the local Somali community.
Police had their work cut out to try and keep the groups apart, dispersing them by firing tear gas, rubber bullets and stun grenades.
Both foreign and local residents have vowed to continue the stand-off over the weekend.
