Police Minister Bheki Cele has called for calm in Ulundi after protests broke out in the wake of the death of a taxi operator.
He died allegedly after being beaten by police officers in Mbilane last Wednesday.
"People woke up and blocked the road. They wanted to attack both Mahlabathini Police Station and Ulundi Police Station and fortunately, the POP was there.
"I know there is still some tension there. I've spoken to the members of the community. I urge them to say cant we have other ways of dealing with the matter."

Police watchdog, IPID is investigating allegations that the taxi operator was assaulted after officers demanded he hand over an illegal firearm, they'd been tipped-off about.
Residents on Monday called for Cele to step in.
"I spoke to the Provincial Commissioner; they asked if I will come. I don't think there will be a need to go because they have promised that they will settle the matter."
