Calls for Deputy Minister Mduduzi Manana to be fired
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
President Jacob Zuma is facing growing pressure from some quarters to fire Mduduzi Manana, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education.
Manana, accused of assaulting two women at a Johannesburg restaurant, appeared briefly in court yesterday where he was granted bail of R5000.
The media's application to film Manana's first appearance was denied.
The National Prosecuting Authority says Manana handed himself over to Douglasdale SAPS before his court appearance.

The court heard that Manana is a first time offender and has no pending cases against him.
The NPA's Phindi Ntshonondwane insists the deputy minister has not received any special treatment.
"The accused was never at any point at the prosecutor's office. The prosecutor had a briefing with the family members of the victim. At no point did the prosecutor meet with the accused person. We need to correct that," she said.
Manana's case has been postponed to next month for further investigation.
