Calls for caution on roads ahead of long weekend
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The N3 Toll Concession expects to be kept extra busy over the next couple of days as holidaymakers take advantage of the long weekend and make their way to the KZN coast.
It says the first round and highest volume so far this week was recorded on the Freedom Day public holiday on Wednesday with an average of 1 400 cars per hour passing through the Mooi River Toll Plaza.
The concession's Con Roux says they expect almost similar today.
"I would expect that traffic volumes will peak slightly in excess of 1000 vehicles an hour and possibly 1 200.
"That is reasonably busy and certainly busy enough for us to caution motorists to be extremely patient and to drive safely and responsibly. As soon as the traffic volumes increase, the slightest incident then creates a fair degree of havoc on the road," he said.
