Call for govt to address student funding
Updated | By Nondumiso Dube
An education activist has pleaded with the government to stop dragging its feet on higher education funding.

Hendrick Makaneta has slammed what he believes is the government’s ignorance when it comes to addressing these shortcomings in education.
He says students continue to face dire funding challenges.
By 2020, student debt accumulated over 10 years stood at more than R10.4 billion at varsities in the country.
Makaneta's called on the government to take more futuristic approach.
"In a way government must be able to intervene because some of the students who have historic debt are unable to complete their studies and as a result they fall back to the community and somebody who have not completed their degree becomes unemployed in the process."
He says with the government’s intervention students will be able to graduate, secure jobs and make meaningful contribution towards the economy.
