Call for communities to unite in fight against child abuse
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Salvation Army is calling on communities to prioritise the fight against child sex abuse.
The international faith-based charity says everyone can play a role in tackling the scourge of violence against children.
The group's been commenting as the country observes Child Protection Week, which runs annually from 29 May and 5 June.
The organisation's Captain Vukani Nkosi says they are marking the campaign by hosting talks throughout KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and the Eastern and Western Cape.
He says the country needs to shine the light on child sexual abuse every hour of every day.
He says it's time for the community to stand up and shield children from any form of abuse.
"Stats show that children always face some kind of abuse either at school, home, even at church, but we are saying that if we stand together and be the voice to fight against abuse of our children, then our world and community will be a better place for our children.
"We are strongly saying no to abuse of any kind, especially to children."
