Cable theft cause of govt website's outages - SITA
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The State Information Technology Agency (SITA) says most government websites are now back online following an outage in parts of the country.

Most gov.za domains, including the presidency website, were down since yesterday.
SITA's Tlali Tlali says they traced the issue to cable theft on Gauteng's East Rand, which in turn damaged their fibre infrastructure and caused the outage affecting government sites in provinces including KZN, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and North West.
"They got into the manhole and started a fire in order to burn the cable in an effort to isolate the copper that they were interested in stealing.
"So that caused damage to our fibre infrastructure, leading to outages that we experienced.
"We can, however, indicate that after deploying our teams and well as the service provider, we are able to indicate that the services have been restored."
