South Africans are waking up to the news that Cabinet's
further eased Covid-19 restrictions under lockdown level 1.
If you test positive for the virus but don't have symptoms you don't have to isolate anymore.
Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele says after consultations with the National Coronavirus Command Council they have decided to reduce the isolation period as well.
"If you test positive with symptoms the isolation period has been reduced from 10 to 7 days. Contacts do not have to isolate unless they develop symptoms.
“The rationale for these amendments has been informed by the proportion of people with immunity to Covid-19 which has risen substantially exceeding 60 to 80 %."

Gungubele says their decisions were motivated by the fact that South Africa's exited the fourth wave of the pandemic.
And the proportion of people with immunity to Covid has risen substantially to between 60% and 80%.
Schools can also return to full-time teaching and learning.”
"Primary, secondary and special schools will return to daily attendance,” says Gungubele.
“The regular provision for a social distance of one metre for learners in schools has also been removed.
“The ministers of health and basic education will in the coming days' issue directives reflecting on this new approach.”
