Cabinet discusses SA's economic growth
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
South Africa’s pedestrian economic growth and getting government plans implemented were central themes at Cabinet’s meeting yesterday.
A statement released after President Jacob Zuma and his ministers met in Cape Town called for all South Africans to do their bit to grow the economy and create jobs.
Cabinet says the pact that has been struck between government, mining companies and labour unions is a model of co-operation and compromise that should be followed by all sectors of society.
While the call for all South Africans to pull together is likely to be countered by calls for government to do more to reduce red-tape and review policies that make investors nervous and the country uncompetitive, cabinet has also received quarterly performance reports on work being done in each state department.
Ministers are happy with the progress being made and have noted areas that need intervention. They have instructed government’s communication services to brief the public on all these issues.
