By-elections: Voting in selected KZN wards going smoothly
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
Voting in by-elections is underway in three KZN wards today with electoral officials so far satisfied with the process.
Residents in Port Shepstone are casting their ballots to elect new councillors for Wards 10 and 28 in the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality after the previous incumbents died from illness.
Another by-election is taking place in Ward Two of the Richmond Municipality following the murder of its councillor earlier this year.
The Independent Electoral Commission's Ntombifuthi Masinga says there have been no reports of disruptions.
"So far, all voting stations open on time. People have started voting. We have already received [communication] of the number of people that have come in. There haven't been any reports incidents of any particular incidents that we need to worry about. We opened all voting stations at 7am and are going to be closing at 9pm," he said.
