Scores of regiments made their way to the mortuary in Ulundi to fetch Prince Buthelezi’s body.

It’s part of preparations ahead of Saturday’s final send-off for the traditional prime minister to the Zulu monarch and nation.

Once his remains have been handed over to the family at the mortuary, amabutho will then accompany him home, singing and chanting in praise on the journey.

Traffic officials have closed off certain roads and intersections to allow for the procession to move through.

Private rituals will follow the arrival of the body at KwaPhindangene Royal Residence.

The body will on Saturday morning leave the family home for the Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi Regional Stadium, where his funeral service will be held.

Among high-profile dignitaries in attendance at the official funeral will be President Cyril Ramaphosa, who will deliver the eulogy.
