Buthelezi says Social Cohesion Conference deliberately cancelled
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
IFP leader, Mangosuthu Buthelezi, believes the people of eThekwini have been disrespected after the municipality's Social Cohesion Conference was postponed at the last minute.
Buthelezi was due to open the two-day event at the Coastlands Hotel in Umhlanga, north of Durban, today.
Reasons have not been given as to why it has been put on hold. Buthelezi says this is the second time the conference has been postponed.

He claims it was not allowed to go ahead because he was opening it.
"From my point of view, it is obvious that some people must have blamed the people who arranged the conference and then also made a decision that Mangosuthu Buthelezi should open the conference. How could they do such a thing at that level? I am convinced of that," he said.

eThekwini issued a short statement this morning apologising for the inconvenience caused to the panel and delegates. Officials say a new date will be communicated once confirmed.
