Buthelezi claims Ingonyama Trust ‘under attack’
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
Traditional Prime Minister to the Zulu Nation Thulasizwe Buthelezi is accusing the government of undermining the power of traditional leaders.

He made the comments in Ulundi where a meeting of AmaKhosi was called by King Misuzulu on Thursday.
The meeting was called to discuss the future of the Ingonyama Trust, which controls 2.8 million hectares of communal land in the province.
King Misuzulu is the sole trustee.

Buthelezi denied claims that the King is playing politics over the future of the Trust.
"The PTO is a peace of paper which is signed by Inkosi which gives AmaKhosi the rights over land administration in their own areas. That right is now being taken away by government, so that is not politicking.
"His Majesty is putting the facts as they are, and Amakhosi agreed with His Majesty, but systematically now we can see that there is a renewed drive to deprive the Zulu nation of its land, and His Majesty said that will not happen during his time, as King of the Zulu nation."
