The 46-year-old Westville businesswoman was forced off a road in Pinetown in May 2019 and taken at gunpoint.

She was found six months later, chained to a wall at a house in Emalahleni in Mpumalanga province.

Lucas Ndlovu, Dumisani Radebe and Mozambican nationals, Jose Tembe and Arthur Da Silva Mondlane went on trial on Monday.

In her opening statements, the prosecutor in the case said when Munsamy left work on the day of her abduction, she had no idea that her life was about to change forever.

She said Munsamy was deprived of her liberty and held in captivity for 162 days until her rescue.

The court heard the terror, solitude, the bedroom walls and the iron chain around her ankle would be her constant companions.

The prosecutor says Munsamy was chained to a wall, except for when she needed to bathe, which she could not even do, as she was too afraid to undress.

The prosecutor says in the background the accused identified South Africa and rich business owners as targets in order to fund their lives of luxury.

She said the State will prove the four men set their sights on Munsamy's family business and identified her as the most suitable person for abduction.
