Business group to take government to court over permit requirements
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Business group Sakeliga is taking the government to court to force it to free up businesses restricted by the lockdown.
The group wants the High Court to set aside all permit requirements needed for a business to operate.
CEO Piet Le Roux says businesses, employees, and service providers should also be protected from unlawful obstruction and arrests.
He says the public is facing a humanitarian, social, and economic disaster because of the government's lockdown approach.
"It's very clear right now that businesses right now are going to go bankrupt. Our studies and our polls among our members show that 19% percent expect to go out of business within a month."

He says 50% of them expected to go out of business within three months.
"And those are some of the more formalised small businesses, as we all know there are informal traders and incorporated businesses all across South Africa and we are seeing them decimated."
