It's been more than three weeks of protests - many turning violent – over student demands for free higher education.

Police at UKZN's Howard College Campus earlier questioned three men - who are said to have been spotted on CCTV footage disrupting classes.

The men were escorted from Shepstone Building to a police Nyala parked opposite the law library.

They were taken to the RMS building to view and verify the footage, and were thereafter released.

The students explained that they were walking on campus when security allegedly grabbed and manhandled them.

Meanwhile, while there's a heavy police presence at UKZN's Westville campus, it remains quiet there.

Yesterday, violence erupted at the campus between protesting students and police stationed at the campus.

Several students were arrested, with one student being shot at and injured in the ensuing skirmishes with security officials.
