A KwaZulu-Natal man who was found guilty of instigating the July 2021 unrest has been handed a 12-year jail sentence.

Mdumiseni Zuma learned his fate in the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court on Wednesday.
He's said to have been behind the destruction of the Brookside Mall in Pietermaritzburg.
He was found to have made a video in which he incited people to gather and commit acts of public violence.
NPA KZN spokesperson Natasha Kara says the mall was looted and burnt to the ground.
"Zuma was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for count one, two years of which are suspended for five years on condition that he is not convicted of the same offence during the period of suspension.
"He was sentenced to six years imprisonment, two years of which are to run concurrently with count one. This results in the effective sentence of 12 years direct imprisonment."
