Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
South African television stalwart Derek Watts has passed away.

The Carte Blanche presenter lost his battle with cancer on Tuesday morning.
He is said to have gone peacefully while surrounded by family.
Watts announced his retirement from the investigative TV show last month after spending Sunday nights with many South Africans for 35 years.
Tributes have been pouring in on social media.
A giant of South African journalism. One of a kind. Thank you for setting the standard so incredibly high. For the masterful storytelling week after week on #CarteBlanche.

Former colleague and radio presenter Bongani Bingwa described him as a kind and generous professional.
One of the kindest, most generous professionals to ever do it. The room disappeared when he spoke to you. Even as a colleague, he made me feel like I was Mother Theresa. Condolences to Belinda and his children, Tyrone and Kirstin. pic.twitter.com/s8NIrlPgQi
