Bringing up historic violence ‘unnecessary’ - IFP

The IFP in KZN says it will not give into the ANC’s tactics of pulling it back towards issues of past violence.

The IFP was responding to comments reportedly made by the ANC’s leadership during last week’s ANC Women’s League conference which accused the IFP of spurring political killings in KZN in the past.

During a media briefing in UMhlathuze on Thursday, IFP KZN chairperson Thami Ntuli said the province has seen enough politically-driven bloodshed and that the time has come to focus on servicing the people.

Ntuli’s comments seemed to be in line with criticism that a desperate ANC is now resorting to rehashing events of the past such as the liberation struggle to appeal to voters.

"The history which is brought back is not necessary. We should be now talking about service delivery," said Ntuli.

Ntuli said the working agreement between the IFP and DA in KZN looks to the future.

"We should be now talk focusing to the issues that affects the people and you. You can't then believe that the kind of the utterances which are being made by the leadership of the ANC, can assist to bring about reconciliation, which is important to bury everything that occurred in the past," he said.
