BREAKING: Allister Coetzee named new Springbok coach
Allister Coetzee has been announced as the new coach for the national rugby team.
The announcement was made a few moments ago at the SuperSport studios in Johannesburg.
The Springbok assistant succeeds Heyneke Meyer whose term spanned from 2012 to 2015.
According to SA Rugby, the new coach will fulfill the standard four-year contract.
The former Stormers head coach had been widely regarded as the front-runner for the job. It is likely that he will select a new captain for the national team.
The 52-year-old, who is is currently coaching in Japan, will begin a new era of South African rugby with several veterans of the green and gold retiring from the international game.
"I think it's a humbling experience. South Africans in general have been good to me. While I was coaching at the Stormers coming up to Pretoria and even to Joburg, I've always had good experiences with rugby loving people.
"It has been a roller coaster emotionally. I'm happy that it's out now and that we can start with business at hand," he said.
Coetzee looked after the backline under Jake White when the Boks won the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France.
