Bread truck hijacker sentenced to 15 years in jail

Five KZN men have been handed heavy sentences for carjacking and theft of motor vehicles.
The Madadeni Regional Court gave Vumani Gama 15 years behind bars for the robbery of a delivery truck while his accomplice - Simphiwe Miya was handed eight years for the 2019 crime.
Police say the men hijacked a driver and his assistant at a supermarket in Eastborne, who were transporting thousands of loaves bread.
KZN police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says during their arrest, Gama was found in possession of a firearm with ammunition.
In a separate case, the Umlazi Regional Court sentenced Lungani Shange and Praisegod Mathe to 10 years each in prison, for motor vehicle theft, with five years suspended.

Mbele says the men stole a car two years ago in Folweni. The car was found in Umlazi, where they were nabbed.
Meanwhile, Mbele explains how the fifth person, an 18-year-old, targeted a minibus during the lockdown.
Sandile Mzulwini, 18, was sentenced to five years imprisonment by the Durban Regional Court for theft of a motor vehicle.
Mzulwini stole a minibus taxi that was parked at a service station at Isipingo Rail on the 12th July.
