A two-year-old boy has been killed after being struck by a car on the M37 near Amanzimtoti, south of Durban.
Netcare911's Chris Botha says paramedics worked fervently to save the boy's life.
"They were standing next to the KwaMakhutha Link Road when the child all of a sudden ran across the road straight in front of a motor car that was coming towards Toti. The child took a very serious impact.
"Paramedics worked for nearly an hour to try and resuscitate the little child but tragically the he was declared dead there on scene," he said.
Botha says the driver of the vehicle was not hurt but severely traumatised.
