Border security combat crime in Umkhanyakude

Border security is one of the focus areas the police have tightened vigilance in the Umkhanyakude district, northern KZN.

This is where law enforcement has deployed more boots to clamp down on cross-border crime.
Since February, a spate of cross-border vehicle theft and hijacked vehicles were smuggled into Mozambique from South Africa in the border area.

SAPS spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says Police Minister Bheki Cele will be monitoring the safer festive season operational plan today.
"More than 140 suspects linked to cross boarder vehicle theft in the area have been arrested and more than 64 vehicles recovered in the area. Firearms and riffles as well as ammunition used in the commission of some of these crimes have also been recovered."
