'Bomb threat' grounds Singapore Airlines plane at OR Tambo

Airport Company South Africa says OR Tambo International Airport has been declared safe by the police after an alleged bomb threat was flagged on a Singapore Airlines plane.

The company says the alleged bomb threat was flagged in a plane that landed at the airport in Johannesburg on Tuesday morning.


ACSA's Tshililo Manenzhe says a message was sent via the customer care line.


The flight was grounded to allow for the necessary security checks.

"Emergency services were activated along with Fire and Rescue and South African Police Service. 

At approximately 11h39am the aircraft was declared safe by SAPS after the screening was completed by K9 units.


“The aircraft was declared safe by the police after screenings were conducted by its K9 unit," says Manenzhe.


Manenzhe says the airport was only made aware of the threat when the aircraft landed.
