Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Rescuers have recovered the body of a 13-year-old boy who drowned while swimming at a beach in KwaDukuza on the north coast this past weekend.
A search began on Saturday, after the child, disappeared in the surf at Sheffield beach.
IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst says a resident, who spotted the teen's body this morning, called the police.
"It's believed to be the same body of the 13-year-old who went missing and was identified by the father. He went missing on Saturday after swimming in a non-bathing beach in Sheffield. The body was handed over to local police authorities and we're sending condolences to the family," he says.
Meanwhile, the search continues for the bodies of a 31-year-old man who drowned at Henley Dam in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday and a 22-year-old diver who drowned while cleaning the hull of a vessel at the Durban Harbour.
