Body of new born baby retrieved from pit latrine in KZN
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
KwaZulu-Natal police are investigating a birth concealment case after a newborn baby was dumped in a pit latrine in northern KZN.

IPSS's Samantha Merrick says they were called to the Maphumulo area on Thursday after the baby was found dead inside a plastic bag.
"Reports from the scene indicate that a 16-year-old female allegedly concealed the birth of a baby and disposed of it in a 2m deep abandoned pit latrine in a neighbour's yard after placing it in a plastic packet.
"The packet containing the newborns body was successfully retrieved from the pit latrine. The deceased baby was handed over to members of Maphumulo SAPS and will form part of an investigation.
"The 16-year-old and her mother have been arrested, and the matter will be investigated further."
