Relatives have meanwhile positively identified his remains.
The man was from Gauteng and had been on holiday in KZN when tragedy struck.
He was with a family member when they got into difficulty in the water.
According to IPSS Emergency Service's Paul Herbst says the man's body was discovered by local fishermen.
"They were swimming at a non-swimming beach side of Umdloti Beach - him and his family member. The family member was luckily rescued. Unfortunately, he was not so lucky, and went under before the lifeguards could get to him."
Rescuers had been working tirelessly to search for him, since Sunday.
