Members of the SAPS's Search and Rescue Unit recovered the 72-year-old's body at Howick Falls on Tuesday, after searching for a week.

Singh was seen last on Tuesday when he left his practice in Raisethorpe.

His empty car was found later at the falls.

Singh's brother in law, Neren Anand says the family was there when Singh was brought up.

"My sister and my wife were at the top of that fall and the rescue teams, K9, police, fire department, they were so wonderful. With dignity they brought him up and we carried him up the gorge."

"My sister said a little prayer, then I went on to the mortuary to see my brother-in-law," he said.

Anand says the family are inconsolable.

Police spokesperson. Thembeka Mbele says the team spotted a body floating in the water at Howick Falls earlier today.

"The body was found by the search and rescue with the assistance of members of the community. The body has been identified as the missing doctor."

Mbele says the cause of death will be investigated and an inquest docket has been opened.

Singh's funeral service will take place on Wednesday at the GVS Hall at 2pm. He will be cremated at the Mountain Rise Crematorium.
