Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The body of a elderly south coast woman has been found in the water at Umtentweni beach, north of Port Shepstone.
The woman's family alerted authorities after the 71-year-old did not return from a walk on the beach this morning.
The National Sea Rescue Institute's Craig Lambinon says rescuers immediately began searching for her.

Lambinon says an off-duty NSRI trainee at the beach noticed a body in the water about 70-metres off shore.
"He swam out and recovered the body of a female which was brought to shore but sadly she was declared deceased by paramedics. The body of the 71-year-old female was handed into care of the forensic pathology services and police have opened an inquest docket," he said.
