Body of drowned pastor recovered in Umlazi
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The body of a pastor has been recovered from the Umlazi River in Durban.
It is understood that the pastor drowned during a baptism near the Ezimbokodweni Primary School in Umlazi's Y-section, yesterday.
IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst says the recovery of the body was a joint operation between police teams and medics.
"A K-9 unit dog was used to follow the scent and locate where the body was beneath the water. A dive operation was then set up and the body was recovered by the divers about 4 to 6-metres beneath the water," he said. "The body was then handed over to the local authorities for further investigations."
In a separate incident, a nine-year-old boy was resuscitated by paramedics following a near-drowning at Tinley Manor, north of Durban, yesterday.
The child was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
