Body of drowned boy (9) recovered on Durban beach

The body of a 9-year-old boy washed up on Ansteys Beach in the Bluff this morning, police have confirmed.

In a statement, officers say the boy had gone missing on Sunday.
Police spokesperson, Nqobile Gwala says the boy and two other friends were walking down the Mondi canal towards the sea when one of them lost his balance in the fast-flowing current in the canal.

She says the boy was swept over the end of the canal into the sea and disappeared below the surface.
This morning his body was found on the beach and an inquest docket was opened for investigation.
