BMA says stopped 3,000 from entering SA illegally over Easter
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
At least 3,800 people trying to enter the country illegally were stopped over the Easter period, the Border Management Authority said on Sunday.
"About 2,403 did not have any documents at all, and about 490 were found to be inadmissible to enter the country for various reasons. They were processed, declared undesirable for 5 years, and were deported,” Commissioner Mike Masiapato told a press briefing in Pretoria.
“Most of the inadmissible individuals were found with invalid passports, fraudulent visas or failed to produce relevant documents."
Masiapato said there was, however, a decrease in the number of people who tried to cross into South Africa illegally.

He says they facilitated the movement of more than one million people over the ten-day period that started on the 26th of March.
It was an increase of over 200,000 people compared to last year's Easter period.
