A Bluff man and his poodle are recovering after being attacked by a pitbull.
The man had gone out for a run with his Maltese poodle yesterday.
The pitbull is believed to have escaped from its yard on Marine Drive, south of Durban and mauled the two.
Rescue Care's, Garrith Jamieson says the man had suffered injuries to his upper body.
"He sustained a bite to the arm by the pitbull, while trying to save the poodle. He had to be stabilised by advanced life support paramedics before being taken through to a nearby hospital for further medical care," said Jamieson.
Jamieson says the poodle was also treated by medics before the owner took it to a nearby vet.
Earlier, police said they were still waiting for the victim to open a case.
