Bloemfontein child mauled to death by pitbull
The police in Bloemfontein have confirmed the death of an 8-year-old child after being attacked by a pitbull.
A child was attacked by a pit bull in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
Provincial police spokesperson, Thabo Covane, says the dog presumably escaped its enclosure.
It then jumped over a fence into a neighbouring premises.
The child was playing alone at the time.
Covane adds police and paramedics were summoned and the boy was declared dead at the scene.
The dog has since been euthanised.
An inquest docket has been opened at the Mangaung police station.
