Blaze at Durban’s London House building extinguished

Firefighters have managed to extinguish a blaze at a building in the Durban CBD.
It's understood the first floor of London House caught alight on Thursday morning.
Flames and dense black smoke were seen coming from the high-rise building at the corner of Monty Naicker Road (Pine Street) and Joe Slovo Street (Field Street).

eThekwini Fire's Divisional Commander, Sifiso Mtshali, led the teams of firefighters.
"According to the building residents and the security guards that were on scene, they suspected that the fire started in the electrical generator pump room due to load shedding.
“When the electricity came back, they suspect that the power might have surged throughout the building, resulting in the fire starting from the transformers and generators."

He says the people working in the building were evacuated safely.
No one was hurt.
"The fire damages were confined to only the first floor which was involved in the fire, but nor the entire floor was involved - just the electrical appliances, electrical equipment, generators, transformers - all that was based on the first floor were significantly affected. But some of the office spaces incurred some minor smoke damages due to the fire."
