Postbank says the SA Post Office doesn't have enough cash at some of its branches in the province.

It's urged recipients to collect their grants at ATMs and retailers.

Black Sash's Evashnee Naidu says they are concerned that some elderly people might have to rely on strangers for assistance at ATMs.

She says this will compromise their safety as there are not enough SASSA officials to facilitate the process.

"Those beneficiaries that are tied to Post Offices want to go to a Post Office because they want to use their fingerprint in order to get grant."

"Going to a retailer or an ATM means that an elderly person has to be technically literate and be able to remember their pin number in order to access their grants from an ATM or retailer and this is the challenge in this year that a lot of our elderly face."
