Black Friday sees growth in online retails sales
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
Some South African retailers and chain stores say the 2017 edition of Black Friday was the best since its introduction to local markets three years ago.
Black Friday, which follows Thanksgiving in the US, is billed as the unofficial opening of the Christmas shopping season.
Thousands of people packed into malls across the province yesterday to cash in on the specials.
Game Stores South Africa's Mark Turner says with some products marked down by 80%, they had expected an increase in foot-traffic.
"We are certainly seeing a busier year than last year. We are starting to see an increase in web traffic with people looking for specials. Players like ourselves who are also online managed to take advantage," he says.

Turner expects more businesses and stores to get involved every year as Black Friday becomes a regular on the local shopping calendar.
"Black Friday is one of those events when retailers put their best foot forward. I think we see a lot of retailers - car, hotel, and insurance companies - latching on," he says.
