Black Friday gets darker with Stage 6 load shedding
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Eskom has ramped load shedding up to Stage 6.
The power utility’s Daphne Mokwena says several generation units are out of service.
"Due to the loss of five generating units over the past 24 hours resulting in a shortage of generation capacity, as well as the need to replenish our emergency reserves, Stage 6 load shedding will be implemented from 12:00 midday [on Friday] until 05:00 on Monday.

"Eskom will closely monitor the power system and communicate any changes to load shedding should it be required.
"Unplanned outages are currently at 15 901MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 5 822MW."
Mokwena has asked consumers to use electricity sparingly, and to switch off geysers and pool pumps between 5pm to 9pm.
