Biker killed in Midlands crash

A man has been killed after a truck and two motorbikes collided on the N3 near Nottingham Road.

KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services say paramedics who had been driving through the area came across the accident scene at about 7am.

Spokesperson, Robert Mckenzie says both bikers had been knocked off their vehicles.

He says one of the men died at the scene.

"The other driver of one of the motorbikes was treated on scene for various injuries," he said.

The exact cause of the crash is still unknown and will be investigated by the police.

The N3 Toll Concession, the body that manages the N3 between Cedara in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands and Heidelberg in Gauteng, says the freeway has been cleared.

The N3TC is urging motorists to drive carefully.


Meanwhile, the N3TC says recovery efforts following a multi-vehicle crash on the N3 towards Johannesburg in the Lions River area are underway.

At least ten trucks and five light motor vehicles were involved in the crash last night.

ER24 says injuries ranged from minor to moderate and no serious injuries or fatalities were reported.

Authorities are diverting light motor vehicles off the N3 at Tweedie. They are rejoining the freeway at Mount West.

Heavy vehicles are being stacked at on scene.
